Description/Bio: This workshop seeks to enable you to become aware of your attitudes, philosophy, and feelings about caring for young children
with disabilities and including these children in your early childhood settings. It explores the importance of individualizing through observation.
Information is presented to consider how to use service plans (IFSP, IEP) to provide opportunities for children with disabilities to participate in
routines and activities of the child care setting. The accessibility of environments, curriculum and materials is discussed.
Sandy Ginther: Twenty-six years ago when her daughter, Abbey, was born with Down syndrome, Sandy became active in local, state and
national endeavors related to children and disability. Since then, she has been employed with Project CHOICES, been a Early Intervention
Program Director at Marcfirst, been an Early Intervention Statewide Trainer with Provider Connections and is currently serving as Family and
Early Childhood Resource Specialist with STARNET Region I/III, administered by Western Illinois University.
This training will provide 2.0 hours for the following:
- CPDUs (Continuing Professional Development Units) for teacher certification
- CDA (Child Development Associate) credit in area(s) #2, #3, & #7
- CE credit for SLP, SW, LCPC, PT, and OT professionals
Full attendance is required to receive a certificate of participation.
