Illinois Early Learning Standards

Description/Bio: Illinois Early Learning Standards gives child care practitioners an overview of the program standards for children ages three to five. Practitioners are taught how to connect the standards with daily classroom practice. Through discussion and small group activities, practitioners will learn how to look at their classrooms and evaluate how the early learning standards are being met.

Carol Weisheit has been an Early Childhood Resource Specialist with STARnet Regions I and III since 2002. She provides technical assistance and support to teachers of children birth to age eight, focusing primarily on children with special needs. She consults with agencies, schools, and programs on a variety of topics. Carol is adjunct faculty for Heartland Community College and is a certified High/Scope trainer. Carol holds a Bachelor's degree in Child Development and a Master's degree in Child and Family Studies. She is a former state director of Illinois CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), and consults with National CASA on a regular basis. Carol has directed child-care programs for low-income families, coordinated and taught in an at-risk pre-k program, and served as a parent educator providing home visits to families at- risk.

This training will provide 6.0 hours for the following:

  • CPDUs (Continuing Professional Development Units) for teacher certification
  • CDA (Child Development Associate) credit in area(s) #2, #3, & #8
  • CE credit for SLP, SW, LCPC, PT, and OT professionals

Full attendance is required to receive a certificate of participation.
