Praise Versus Encouragement
by Carol Weisheit
March 15, 2010
Reg. 8:30 AM, Workshop 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Bright Futures at Lincoln Education Center
932 Harrison Street, Galesburg, Illinois
Description/Bio: Many people feel the need to bribe children to behave with candy, stickers and various other rewards. All educators expect
children to be intrinsically motivated but often times set children up to be extrinsically motivated by their actions. Teachers and caregivers can
set up their environment in an encouraging way that allows children to experience motivation from within which creates a respectful and caring
atmosphere. Small group activities, short videos, and discussion will be shared.
Carol Weisheit has been an Early Childhood Resource Specialist with STARnet Regions I and III since 2002. She provides technical assistance
