by Sharon Doubet
December 8, 2009
Reg. 8:30 AM, Workshop 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Advanced Medical Transport
1718 North Sterling Avenue, Peoria, Illinois
Description/Bio: A family-centered approach requires providers to work collaboratively with families within a framework of understanding the feelings of families. This framework includes the 3 R's - Relationships, Respect and Reciprocity. When we reflect on our own family
experiences and family values, we see that we are all influenced by our family of origin. This session will begin with a focus on understanding
our own families' impact on our perceptions of other families. Our family culture influences the way we view the world, relate to one another,
and what we believe about children. Through case studies and video interviews, we will listen to voices of family members and develop
strategies to provide families with the information and knowledge they desire to support their child's development. Engaging activities will
increase our sensitivity to the unique perspective of the family and increase collaboration to develop family-centered supports.
